Shared millions of times on social networks, this picture is taken from a video posted by the mother of the young American in 2013
It is one of the most famous memes of the Internet. “Side Eyeing Chloe” was sold as an NFT for 25 ethereum, or $74,000 at the current price of this cryptocurrency. It is the Dubai-based company 3F Music that now has ownership, reports BFMTV. However, this company has no copyright on the meme.
It has indeed the digital certificate NFT, which only attests that the company has the original capture of the image of the young Chloe. “Side Eyeing Chloe” is indeed the image of the little Chloe who, sitting on her car seat, looks with concern at the lens. Used and shared millions of times on social networks, this shot is taken from a video posted by the mother of the young American girl in 2013.
The money could pay for Chloe’s education… or for a horse
The context of this image that has become inescapable on all networks is, however, banal. The mother wanted to surprise her two daughters by taking them to Disneyland. When she saw the theme park, the older one cried with joy. This worried her sister, the young Chloe, who did not understand what was going on. Hence her now widely known look. The money from the sale should help pay for the girl’s education, her mother told the BBC. Even if on its side, his daughter now aged 10 years would prefer a horse.
The NFT for non-fungible token is based on blockchain technology. It allows to guarantee that a document is unique, without possible falsification. And the company 3F Music is not new to these purchases. The company already owns several memes, including “Disaster girl”, a photo of a little girl smiling as she watches a house burn down. It paid nearly 500,000 dollars to acquire the NFT of this photo.
